Integrating Somatic Psychotherapy and EMDR Introductory Training, Part B
Part B of this Introductory Training on “Integrating Somatic Psychotherapy with EMDR” is 2 very full days of dynamic presentation, discussion, demonstration/video, and experiential practicums with personalized feedback.
We will cover:
Tracking Disconnections
Working with Dilemmas
Process Resources
Holding the Heat
Subtle Dissociation
This training is designed to help participants take the concepts from Part A and integrate them into practical skills. We will focus on using specific tracking skills to help assess resiliency, while heightening presence and fully engage with your client’s “process.”
These abilities will help you to be able to observe and work with dynamics of “subtle dissociation” that often go unnoticed in everyday sessions.
A somatic approach to utilizing EMDR enables you to track resiliency accurately moment-by-moment, and thus pace your therapy more effectively. This puts you closer to your client’s process to be able to notice and work with nervous system responses that are driven by parts of the brain that do not have verbal language.
Learning Objectives
Describe how to use the tension that is present in dilemmas clients encounter to engage them in self confrontation.
Explain 2 ways that therapists can inadvertently “lower the heat” that is inherent in a client’s situation.
Describe 2 challenges therapists face when “holding the heat” with their clients.
Identify 2 somatic signs of subtle dissociation.
Describe 2 examples of “process resources” that may arise in the course of a session.
Identify 2 benefits of having a very clear agreement on the focus of the session.
List 3 ways clients may “disconnect” from their own process.
